Some say it is because of the mirror like blade finish on the Milspec model, and some say it is the small size matched with the heavy duty utility it offers. Both of these attributes are spot on, but we think it is the blade steel: CPM 154. Lately, we have been getting a lot of questions on this blade, so we decided to break down why this off-the-radar steel is so unique.
When it comes to lifetime heirloom knives, some of our customers want more. They want it to be completely unique to them. That's where Dark Alliance comes in. When they are in the market for a one-of-a-kind spin on a high end knife or gun, the place to go is Dark Alliance Firearms in Las Vegas, Nevada - one of America’s hottest customizers of weapons and tools. Co-founder, Jeremy Schmierer is one of the most meticulous and unique firearms engravers out there and he digs DPx Gear.
The folding knives I design for DPx Gear carry a similar look. Beefy, utilitarian and thick. A number of customers that are used to more traditional knives are surprised when at the heft and feel of their first DPx product. Imposingly well built and yet balanced when used. It is not by accident.
Made in America is an important part of DPx Gear's product line.
When the DPx HEST Original came out in 2008, it had to be three things:
- Made in the USA
- High quality but still affordable
- Backed by a lifetime warranty
We choose to make more of our products in the states to support US labor and the amazing talented manufacturers that share similar passions in their business operations.
